Cox’s Bazar conference a key opportunity to address Rohingya crisis: Dr. Khalilur Rahman
National Security Adviser and High Representative on the Rohingya issue Dr. Khalilur Rahman, has marked the upcoming international conference in Cox’s Bazar as a major opportunity to advance efforts in resolving the protracted Rohingya crisis.
Speaking at a diplomatic briefing in Dhaka on Sunday (August 17), Dr. Khalilur Rahman announced that an international dialogue titled "Partner Dialogue: Messages Received for Discussion at the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation" will take place in Cox’s Bazar on August 25. The event will serve as a preparatory platform for a larger UN-led global conference scheduled for September 30.
“This conference offers a crucial opportunity to amplify the voices and aspirations of the Rohingya community before the international community,” the adviser said, urging diplomatic missions to actively participate.
He noted that following Bangladesh’s proposal for a global conference at last year’s UN General Assembly, the initiative received unanimous approval from UN member states. To date, 106 countries have expressed their support.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman emphasized that as the Rohingya do not have state representation at the UN, Bangladesh continues to advocate on their behalf on the global stage.
Diplomatic officials confirmed that invitations for the Cox’s Bazar event have already been issued.
