The train communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country came to a halt for about an hour after a huge crane, being used in the construction of Dhaka Elevated Expressway, broke down on the railway line in Dhaka on Saturday (February 17) morning.

The incident took place near the FDC gate in Karwan Bazar, said Railway Police sources.

“A portion of a huge crane fell on the rail tracks around 6:40am. As a result, the train movement was stopped till 7:30am. Luckily, no one was injured in this incident. The train movement restarted after the crane was promptly removed from over the rail tracks,” said Dhaka Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ferdous Ahmed Biswas.

The elevated expressway from Tejgaon to Chittagong Road in the capital is being constructed in parallel to the rail line.
