Creating new airline in place of Biman recommended
The Task Force Committee on Economic Strategy Redefinition has recommended the creation of a completely new airline called 'Bangladesh Airways' in place of ‘Biman Bangladesh’, using half of the latter’s assets.
Education and Planning Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud revealed the information at a press conference organised on Monday (February 3) to inform the media about the recommendations of the task force.
He said, “Bangladesh Biman has failed to provide modern and advanced passenger services even in 50 years. Therefore, the Task Force Committee on Economic Strategy Redefinition has recommended to set up a completely new airline called 'Bangladesh Airways' after laying off Biman Bangladesh, using half of Biman’s assets.”
He also said, "This new airline will be operated by a world-class independent management company. Bangladesh Biman is a decrepit institution. Foreign airlines are coming and making profits, but Biman is failing to make any profit."
