Criminals will be eliminated in Jungle Salimpur: RAB DG

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General (DG) AKM Shahidur Rahman said that Jungle Salimpur has become a den of criminals.

He said that terrors living illegally and carrying illegal weapons there will be eliminated very soon through legal process.

He said these things to journalists after the funeral of RAB officer Motaleb Hossain, who was killed in the attack on the RAB-7 head office in Patenga of Chittagong at 3 pm on Tuesday (January 20).

Motaleb's funeral was held at 2:30 pm today.

RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman said, “Subedar Motaleb was martyred. Those responsible for this will be brought to justice. We will ensure punishment through judicial proceedings—we will ensure this at any cost. A case is under process of filing regarding this incident. RAB will monitor the entire matter until the judicial verdict is issued and will keep an eye on it until the verdict is implemented. We are always by the side of the people and will continue to fulfill our duty.”

He also said, “Irreparable loss has been caused to the family of martyr Motaleb. His wife has lost her husband, the children have lost their father. We cannot return their husbands or fathers. However, we have accepted the responsibility of this family and will stand by them.”

Earlier on Monday (January 19), RAB Deputy Assistant Director Motaleb Hossain was killed in an attack by terrorists in Jungle Salimpur. Three other RAB members and source Mona were seriously injured in the same incident. The deceased Motaleb was a BGB Naib Subedar and later worked in RAB.

According to police, RAB and local sources, a BNP office was scheduled to be inaugurated in the Jangal Salimpur area under the leadership of Yasin on Monday afternoon. A large number of people gathered there on the occasion. Rukon Group follower and RAB source Mona told RAB that Yasin would be present at the inauguration ceremony. Based on this information, a team from Patenga Company of Chittagong RAB went there to conduct an operation.

At 3:45 pm, followers of Yasin Group attacked RAB members who were going on an operation. At one stage, four RAB members and source Mona were captured. Later, they were severely beaten by snatching their weapons. Upon receiving the information, Sitakunda Police Station started a rescue operation and, with the help of locals, rescued the injured and admitted them to the Combined Military Hospital. There, the doctor declared RAB Deputy Assistant Director Motaleb dead.
