An unusual albino buffalo, popularly nicknamed “Donald Trump” on social media, has become a major attraction at the National Zoo in Mirpur during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, drawing large crowds of visitors.

From early morning, visitors were seen gathering in front of the animal’s enclosure (L-07 shed) to get a glimpse of the rare buffalo, which has recently gone viral online.

People of all ages were seen taking photos and recording videos of the animal, with many saying they were specifically visiting the zoo after seeing its widespread popularity on social media.

Some visitors also jokingly compared the buffalo’s white colour, facial features and hair pattern to former US President Donald Trump, which contributed to the viral attention.

Zoo visitors said the online buzz was the main reason they came to see the animal, noting that its unique appearance makes it stand out among other exhibits.

Zoo authorities said the buffalo was not brought for display purposes alone, but is being kept as part of conservation and research efforts due to its rare albino genetic traits.

National Zoo Director Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Talukder explained that albinism is a genetic condition that reduces pigmentation in the body, making such animals valuable for scientific study.

He added that while visitor numbers typically increase during Eid holidays, it cannot be confirmed whether the buffalo alone is responsible for the crowd surge.

According to sources, the rare albino buffalo was previously raised at a farm in Narayanganj and was later taken into government custody for conservation after being sold for sacrifice during Eid preparations. It was subsequently transferred to the National Zoo under police supervision.
