Curbing corruption key to democratic reform: Badiul Alam Majumdar
Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of SHUJAN-Citizens for Good Governance, has said that rebuilding the country’s democratic process is not possible without eliminating corruption from politics and elections.
Speaking at a dialogue titled “Dialogue for Democratic Reconstruction” held at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Thursday, Majumdar stressed that corruption and criminalization must be rooted out to ensure free and fair elections.
"Despite having a sound legal framework, the last three national elections were marred by widespread corruption," he said. "If similar irregularities occur in the upcoming election, the democratic system cannot be strengthened."
Majumdar emphasized that unethical practices in politics must come to an end. “To maintain state stability and rebuild democracy, it is essential to eliminate corruption,” he added.
The event was attended by civil society members, political analysts, and election experts, who echoed concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the urgent need for reform.
