BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, has insulted women, and it is clear that dark days will descend for women if Jamaat comes to power.

He made the comment on Monday, February 3, while addressing a protest rally organised by the Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal in front of the BNP's central office. He questioned Jamaat, asking, "Has the card to heaven run out that you are now targeting women? Or was Shafiq saheb's ID hacked for a short while?"

He stated that Shafiqur Rahman's comments were a severe insult to women. He further questioned why Jamaat accepted cabinet positions under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia if they now say a woman cannot be a party chief.

Speaking at the same rally, BNP Standing Committee member Begum Selima Rahman demanded that Shafiqur Rahman apologise to women, warning that otherwise a fire would ignite that would burn Jamaat to ashes. She said that Jamaat wants to keep underfoot the very women from whose womb everyone is born. She warned that on February 12, women would prove that no party that insults women can win.
