DB recovers 200 bhori gold from Fortune Mall heist, 4 arrested

Detective Branch (DB) has recovered nearly 200 bhori of stolen gold, 93.5 grams of silver, cash, and a motorcycle, arresting four suspects involved in a burglary at a gold shop inside Fortune Shopping Mall. DB revealed the details at a press briefing on Friday morning, October 17.

DB Chief Shafiqul Islam said, “In a clever method, Suman and Shaheen entered the third floor of Fortune Super Market by cutting through the bathroom grill. They then broke into Shampa Jewellers by cutting the gate and locks, stealing the gold. Acting on intelligence, DB launched an operation and first arrested Shaheen from Chattogram. Based on his information, a raid in Faridpur led to the recovery of about 100 bhori of gold.”

He added, “Later, another team raided the house of Suman’s associate in Barishal and recovered the remaining 90 bhori of gold. Two more suspects, Uttam Kanai and Nuruddin, were also arrested in connection with the theft.”

The DB Chief said investigators suspect Suman may still possess additional gold. He also revealed that the accused were previously involved in a 2021 burglary at Karnaphuli Market.
