The four-day annual conference of Deputy commissioners and divisional commissioners begins on Sunday in the city.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the conference and hold an interaction session at her Tejgaon office while the business sessions would be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium with land management, maintenance of law and order, improvement of education standard and monitoring of development activities in the field.

The PM is expected to give specific directives on government priorities and development programmes in various areas as she took over for the fourth consecutive term following the January 7 general election, according to the officials.

‘We have listed a total of 356 proposals from deputy commissioners and divisional commissioners for discussions with the ministers and other policymakers concerned in 25 business sessions to get directives from the policymakers directly,’ cabinet secretary Md Mahbub Hossain told a press briefing on the DCs’ conference at the secretariat on Saturday.

He said that highest 22 proposals were related to the road transport and highways division out of 56 ministries and divisions.

The cabinet secretary said that the ministers and other policymakers were expected to give directives on current issues, like commodity price hikes ahead of the month of Ramadan beginning in the second week of March and fire safety of buildings in the cities and district towns in the wake of Thursday night’s fire incident at a Bailey Road building that left 46 dead and dozens injured.

The deputy commissioners will make courtesy calls on the Chief Justice, Obaidul Hassan, and speaker Shirin
Sharmin Chaudhury separately at their respective offices during the conference to be concluded on Thursday.
