Dead BNP man gets one and half year in jail
A Dhaka Court has sentenced a ward-level BNP leader, who died four years ago, one and half year in jail in a case filed over obstructing police attempting to do their duty.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataullah passed the verdict on Monday.
Md Abu Taher Daiya, former organising secretary of Ward no 18 under Newmarket thana unit BNP, got one and half year in jail under two sections of the Penal Code. He was fined Tk7,000 and in case of failure to pay the fine, he would stay three mmonths in jail.
Defence lawyer Zakir Hossain said the court also issued arrest warrants against Taher showing him absconding.
According to the case statement, on January 29, 2015, BNP leaders and activists detonated a cocktail bomb at gate number four of New Market in the evening to create panic among the people.
Police filed a case with the New Market police station naming 13 local BNP leaders and activists.
