Death of former flight lieutenant Tahsif: Father files murder case
The father of former Air Force flight lieutenant K M Tahsif Souri has filed a murder case over his son’s death. The case names no specific individual as an accused and instead targets unidentified persons. Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, a younger friend of the family who called Tahsif out of his home, has not been named as an accused.
On Saturday (October 31) morning, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station concerned confirmed the case. He said Tahsif’s father, K M Enayetul Karim, had filed the murder case as the plaintiff. He asked journalists to contact the relevant police officials for other details of the case.
Tahsif went missing on the evening of October 27 after leaving his home in Sector 18, Uttara. According to the family, he left the house at Dip’s call. Garage CCTV footage at the house earlier showed the two together, after which they left on two separate motorcycles.
Dip had told the family that Tahsif’s motorcycle developed a problem, so they went to a workshop. After the work was done, they ate together and then parted ways. However, new information about their movements that night later emerged during the investigation.
On the afternoon of October 28, the River Police recovered Tahsif’s body from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Tongi. He was identified through the wristwatch and the mobile phone in his pocket. The next day, after a post-mortem examination at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, he was buried at the graveyard in Sector 12, Uttara.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) took Dip into custody for questioning on the night of October 29 from a house on Babar Road in Mohammadpur. The next day, the investigation team took him to the Mazar Bosti area beside the Turag in Tongi. Based on information he provided, a black Suzuki Gixxer 150 motorcycle without a number plate was recovered from there. Investigation sources said the motorcycle’s ownership and its connection to the incident would be verified.
During PBI questioning, Dip claimed they were in the area near the Turag that night when several people chased them and Tahsif jumped into the river. The veracity of his statement has not yet been confirmed. Tahsif’s father said his son knew how to swim, so the family doubts the account that he drowned after jumping into the water.
Meanwhile, media reports up to October 30 had said the family had not filed a case. Additional IGP Md. Rezaul Karim, chief of the River Police, had said that if the family did not file a case, police would do so as the plaintiff and take legal action.
