Death toll in landslides and floods rises to 57, over 4,000 people in shelters

The death toll in seven districts of the country due to continuous heavy rains, landslides and floods has risen to 57. Another 40 people have been injured in the incident. Currently, 4,079 people have taken shelter in 111 shelters opened for the affected people.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief gave this information by releasing the updated information at 4 pm on Wednesday (July 15).

According to the ministry, the seven districts currently affected by floods are Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Moulvibazar and Habiganj. 57 upazilas, 334 unions and 9 municipalities in these districts have been inundated with flood water.

District-wise, three people have died in Rangamati, six in Bandarban, 32 in Cox's Bazar (19 locals and 13 Rohingya), 15 in Chittagong and one in Moulvibazar.

Among the injured, there are one person in Khagrachari, two in Bandarban, 25 in Cox's Bazar (20 locals and five Rohingya) and 12 in Chattogram.

The Relief Ministry said that relief activities are continuing in the affected areas along with rescue and rehabilitation. Various types of relief, including cash, rice and corrugated iron, have been allocated in Cox's Bazar. An additional Tk2 million has also been allocated from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

In addition, Tk6.5 million, 1,200 metric tonnes of rice and 49,100 packets of dry food have been allocated for Chattogram.

According to the ministry, an additional Tk1.75 million and 3,250 metric tons of rice have been allocated for the flood-affected districts in different phases from July 7 to 12. In addition, a total of Tk4.6 million has been allocated for general relief activities in 64 districts of the country.
