The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DECAB) and the Bangladesh-China Apon Media Club have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening media collaboration and professional exchanges between Bangladesh and China.

The agreement was signed at the Apon Friendship Exchange Center in the capital on Sunday (June 7).

DECAB General Secretary Imrul Kayes and Bangladesh-China Apon Media Club General Secretary Olivia Chu signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.

Speaking at the event, Yu Kuang Yue Anandi, director of the Bangla Department of China Media Group (CMG), highlighted the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and China and underscored the growing importance of media cooperation in strengthening bilateral ties.

He noted that journalists covering foreign affairs and diplomacy in Bangladesh have increasingly engaged with China in recent years, including through official visits sponsored by the Chinese government. The newly signed MoU, he said, would open a new chapter in media collaboration and create further opportunities for journalist exchanges between the two countries.

Following the signing ceremony, DECAB General Secretary Imrul Kayes said the agreement would facilitate greater sharing of objective information on Bangladesh-China relations and international diplomacy, while also enhancing professional development and experience-sharing among journalists from both countries.

The event was attended by several prominent media figures, including the National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, and the Bangladesh Photojournalists Association President AKM Mohsin.

The Bangladesh-China Apon Media Club formally began its journey in December 2024, while DECAB has been representing Bangladesh’s diplomatic correspondents for more than 26 years, earning a reputation as one of the country's leading professional journalism bodies.

The MoU is expected to enhance institutional cooperation, journalist exchanges and information-sharing initiatives, further strengthening people-to-people connectivity between Bangladesh and China through the media sector.
