Decision on extending weekly holiday likely on Thursday
The government is considering extending the weekly holiday to reduce pressure on fuel oil consumption in the country. A final decision on the matter is expected at the cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 2.
Government sources said the global fuel supply chain has been disrupted due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, putting pressure on domestic fuel management. Various measures are being considered to ensure optimal use of existing reserves to handle the situation.
As part of this, preliminary discussions are underway on extending the weekly holiday for government officials and employees, adjusting office hours, and introducing work-from-home arrangements if necessary. However, no final decision has been made yet.
Sources indicate that all government offices and agencies have been asked to submit their own proposals on ways to conserve fuel. These proposals will be presented at the upcoming cabinet meeting, where a decision may be reached after detailed discussions.
The possibility of introducing partial online classes at educational institutions is also being considered to reduce fuel consumption in the transport sector. Efforts are particularly focused on how to reduce commuting by students in major cities to save fuel.
Meanwhile, to address the situation, the Ministry of Public Administration issued an 11-point directive for government officials and employees on March 29. The directive emphasises energy and fuel conservation, improving office efficiency, and maintaining cleanliness.
