The government has decided to keep external decorative lights at shops and shopping malls across the country switched off to conserve electricity and fuel. Several guidelines have been formulated following meetings with business organisations regarding this matter.

The decisions were made at a meeting on 'Electricity and Fuel Conservation' chaired by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindo Islam Amit at the Power Division on Sunday, March 15.

According to the decisions made at the meeting, external decorative lights of all shopping malls and commercial establishments across the country must remain off. Additionally, it has been instructed to maintain the temperature of air conditioners (ACs) used in shopping malls and shops at 25 degrees Celsius or higher.

Furthermore, instructions have been given to turn off signboard lights immediately upon closing any shop or establishment.

Business leaders present at the meeting said they would work to implement these decisions to cooperate with the government's initiative to conserve electricity and fuel.

Representatives from various business organisations participated in the meeting, including the presidents, general secretaries and representatives of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, Bangladesh Shop Business Owners Association, Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Business Owners Association, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
