Democracy will be undermined without public support: Khasru
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Monday emphasized that democracy cannot function without the support and active participation of the people. He warned that any attempt to act without public backing would ultimately disrupt democratic processes.
Speaking at a discussion event in the capital, Khasru urged all political actors to avoid creating division among citizens, stating that such divides would be a violation of the Constitution.
"There is no room for division among the people of Bangladesh. Any effort to sow discord would be an affront to our constitutional values," he said.
Khasru also noted that the current political phase of street movements has come to an end and called for restoring power to the people through democratic means. "The street phase is over. Now is the time to return ownership to the people. Every political party must seek its mandate directly from the public," he added.
He further reiterated the BNP’s commitment to working toward the empowerment of persons with disabilities in a future Bangladesh.
"To preserve democracy, political parties must operate based on the trust and support of the people. No democratic process can succeed without public participation," Khosru concluded.
