Democracy-loving people are the source of all political power of BNP: Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has commented that the democracy-loving people of the country are the source of all political power of BNP. He has said the other name of BNP is the struggle of building a public-welfare, democratic and self-reliant Bangladesh.
He said these in a message given on the occasion of the 48th founding anniversary of BNP on Monday (August 31). On this occasion the Prime Minister greeted and congratulated the leaders and workers of all levels of the party, supporters, well-wishers and the people of the country.
In the message Tarique Rahman said the 48th founding anniversary of the courage, struggle, sacrifice and success of BNP, one of the most popular political parties of Bangladesh, is a day of joy, enthusiasm and inspiration for the people of the country.
He said former President Ziaur Rahman established BNP in the open field of Ramna Batamul of Dhaka on this day in 1978. The establishment of the party was a landmark event in the history of the re-establishment of democracy of Bangladesh.
Tarique Rahman said one-party BAKSAL was established on January 25, 1975 by blocking the path of freedom of speech, personal freedom and democracy of the people. Later taking the responsibility of running the state Ziaur Rahman re-established democracy in the country and returned the right of doing politics of the banned political parties. In its continuity a new journey of multi-dimensional democracy started in the country through the establishment of BNP.
On the founding anniversary Tarique Rahman remembered the founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman with deep respect. At the same time he also remembered former Prime Minister and Chairperson of BNP Khaleda Zia with respect.
Tarique Rahman said Khaleda Zia had reached BNP to the homes of the people of the country through her leadership and personality. He also mentioned that BNP has played the role of a vigilant sentry by taking the people with it in protecting independence, sovereignty and democracy.
In the message he said whenever independence, sovereignty and democracy have faced threat in the country, then the leaders and workers, supporters and well-wishers of BNP have sacrificed by taking the democracy-loving people with them. He also remembered with deep respect the contribution of those who have given their lives or been injured in the struggle of establishing democracy and good governance since the establishment of the party.
He further said whenever the people have got the opportunity of casting votes fearlessly in free and fair elections, then BNP has got the responsibility of running the state. During the running of the government in various terms various initiatives have been taken to reintroduce parliamentary democracy, expand women’s education and give democracy a strong and institutional form.
Tarique Rahman said after the end of the long one and a half decade of fascist rule and exploitation the people have again given BNP the responsibility of running the state through free, fair and neutral elections. BNP wants to repay their trust by establishing an accountable state to the people.
He said the BNP government is working to build Bangladesh as a public-welfare state. He expressed the hope that the leaders and workers, supporters and well-wishers of the party will also play a role in the service of the country in the coming days by keeping the trust and faith of the people intact.
At the end of the message Tarique Rahman said, “The democracy-loving people of the country are the source of all political power of BNP. The other name of BNP is the struggle of building a public-welfare, democratic and self-reliant Bangladesh.”
