Dengue claims 3 more lives, 1,463 infected in 24 hours

The Directorate General of Health Services has said dengue is taking a severe form across the country, with three more people dying of the disease in the last 24 hours while 1,463 new cases were detected in the same period.

This information was given in the regular dengue bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday afternoon (September 9). According to the bulletin, these deaths and detections were recorded nationwide from 8am Tuesday to 8am Wednesday.

With the three new deaths, the total number of dengue deaths this year has risen to 133 while the overall number of infected people has reached 46,857.

Earlier on Tuesday, nine people died of dengue in a single day, the highest single-day death toll this year. That day, 1,571 new dengue cases were also detected, the highest daily infection figure recorded so far this year.

Previously, five people each died of dengue on September 1 and August 23, which had then been the highest single-day death counts of the year. On September 1, 1,324 dengue cases were detected, the highest daily figure until Tuesday.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, 102,861 people were infected with dengue last year and 413 died. In 2024, the number of dengue patients stood at 101,214 while 575 people died.

With dengue detection and death rates continuing to rise in September this year, concern over the situation is growing further. Large numbers of patients are being admitted to hospitals every day, underlining the need to strengthen caution and preventive measures against the disease.
