Dengue claims 4 more lives, 1,252 hospitalised in 24 hrs

Four more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease to 111 this year.

The information was provided in the regular dengue bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday, September 3. The bulletin covered the dengue situation from 8am Wednesday to 8am Thursday.

According to the DGHS, two of the newly deceased were residents of the two Dhaka city corporation areas, while the other two were from Chattogram and Khulna divisions .

During the same period, 1,252 more patients were hospitalised with dengue. This brings the total number of hospitalised dengue patients this year to 39,532. Of them, 36,467 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals .

Analysis of the death figures shows that two died in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August. August recorded the highest number of deaths so far.

Additionally, the DGHS reported 10 more dengue deaths in the first two days of September. With the rising number of infections and deaths, concern is growing among health officials.
