Dengue death toll surpasses 200 as 6 more die in 24 hours

The dengue situation in Bangladesh has become increasingly concerning, with six more people dying from the disease in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 1,868 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the figures cover the period from 8am Tuesday to 8am Wednesday. The information was disclosed in a special bulletin on the dengue situation issued by the DGHS on Wednesday (September 23).

With the latest six deaths, the number of people who have died from dengue this year has risen to 201. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 67,367 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

The number of new patients was slightly lower than the previous day. In the 24 hours until 8am Tuesday, 1,872 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals—the highest single-day figure recorded so far this year.

Alongside the new admissions, dengue patients continue to receive treatment at hospitals across the country. The DGHS is regularly monitoring the situation, with new figures on infections and deaths being recorded every day.

On Tuesday, five people died of dengue and 1,872 new patients were admitted to hospitals. With another six deaths reported the following day, the number of dengue fatalities this year has now crossed 200.

DGHS statistics show that dengue infections and deaths have increased significantly in September. With large numbers of patients being admitted to hospitals every day, the situation highlights the need to strengthen preventive measures and preparedness to tackle the outbreak.
