Dentist Pinu murder: Husband Sohel Rana sent to jail after remand ends

A court has ordered the husband of dentist Sara Rokhsana Pinu, Sohel Rana, to be sent to jail after the end of a two-day remand in the murder case in the Faydabad area of Southkhan in the capital.

He was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin's court in Dhaka on Wednesday, August 5, after the remand period ended. The investigating officer of the case, SI Habibur Rahman of Southkhan Police Station, applied to keep him in jail custody, which the court granted. SI Abu Bakar Siddique of the prosecution division said no bail petition was filed on behalf of the accused.

The investigating officer's application stated that Sohel Rana was interrogated during remand. Additionally, various information was gathered during the investigation by speaking to residents of the incident site and the surrounding area. The investigation also noted that according to family members of the deceased, marital discord and mutual distrust have come to light. These pieces of information are being verified.

The application further stated that according to the deceased's elder sister, during her lifetime, Sara Rokhsana Pinu had accused her husband of physically and mentally abusing her and had expressed concerns about her own safety. Police recovered the body of Sara Rokhsana Pinu from a residence in Southkhan's Faydabad last Thursday. While the incident was initially thought to be a murder disguised as a robbery, new information emerged during the investigation.

Police said that although the grill of a window in the flat was cut, a footprint found on the balcony inside matched a pair of shoes belonging to Sohel Rana recovered from the flat. He was arrested as a suspect based on this clue.

The day after the murder, the victim's sister Sarah Sultana Poli filed a murder case against unidentified individuals at Southkhan Police Station. Sohel Rana was later arrested based on the progress of the investigation. Police said the investigation into the case is still ongoing.
