Dependence on foreign countries for medical treatment must be reduced: Health Minister
Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has stressed the need to reduce reliance on overseas medical treatment, pledging full support for doctors during his tenure.
Speaking at the induction program for resident physicians at Bangladesh Medical University on Sunday (March 1), the minister said the government is committed to strengthening the country’s healthcare system so that patients no longer feel compelled to seek treatment abroad.
“As long as I remain in the ministry, I will do everything necessary for our doctors,” he said.
The minister also announced plans to establish a molecular laboratory at the university and address the ongoing residential accommodation shortage.
Referring to concerns raised by the education ministry, Sakhawat Hossain noted that medical education should remain free from political influence. He emphasized that if medical students become involved in politics, patients could ultimately be deprived of proper healthcare services.
