Deprived Jubodal leaders protest outside BNP chairperson's office
Leaders who were excluded from the newly announced full-fledged central committee of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal staged a sit-in and march in front of BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman's Gulshan office on Monday, June 8, alleging that the contributions of dedicated and activist leaders were not properly evaluated. Around fifty leaders and activists took part in the protest.
The protesters alleged that many leaders who remained active in Jubodal politics despite facing imprisonment, lawsuits, attacks and torture during the Awami League government's tenure were not given positions in the new committee. Instead, individuals close to the president and general secretary were given key positions.
They claimed that loyalty was prioritised over sacrifice and contribution in the committee formation, causing resentment among grassroots leaders and activists. They warned that the organisation would suffer if the deprived leaders are not properly evaluated soon.
Former leaders from various levels of Jubodal and Chhatra Dal participated in the programme.
On Thursday, a 151-member central executive committee of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal was approved, with Abdul Monayem Munna as president and Muhammad Nurul Islam Nayon as general secretary. An earlier partial committee was announced on July 9, 2024, and although a full committee was supposed to be formed within three months, it took nearly two years.
