Deputy Speaker to attend Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in South Africa

A five-member parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kaysar Kamal will leave Dhaka tonight to attend the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Cape Town, South Africa.

BNP MP Humam Kader Chowdhury, MP Ms Sakila Farzana and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami MP Md Mahbubul Alam will participate in the conference as members of the delegation.

Secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, will serve as secretary of the delegation.

The 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference will be held from September 13 to 19, with participation from parliamentarians and representatives of Commonwealth member countries.

Discussions, exchanges of views and decisions will be taken at the conference on the theme 'Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: Commonwealth Leadership'.

Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaysar Kamal will hold a bilateral meeting with Speaker of the Pakistan National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on the sidelines of the conference.

Barrister Kaysar Kamal will also hold a bilateral meeting with Premier of the Western Cape of South Africa, Alan Winde.

The Bangladesh delegation, led by the Deputy Speaker, is also scheduled to hold meetings with representatives of various countries participating in the CPC.

The Jatiya Sangsad delegation will participate in a parliamentary workshop with CPC leaders to achieve the common goal of consolidating democratic practices.

The delegation is scheduled to return to Dhaka on September 20 after the conference.
