After returning home from India, Mahdi Hasan was released by the police after being questioned for more than two hours at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

He was questioned at immigration after arriving in Dhaka on an IndiGo Airlines flight from New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. He was released around 6 pm, airport sources said.

Mahdi was staying in Delhi to go to Europe. It is also known that he contacted VFS Global for the visa process. Later, while boarding a flight to Europe, the Indian Immigration Police stopped him at Delhi Airport and sent him back to Dhaka. After returning home, he mentioned the matter of being sent back on Facebook Live.

Earlier, he came under widespread criticism over a video that went viral for allegedly making comments about setting fire to a police station and burning a policeman to death. He was arrested on January 3 after that incident but was released on bail the next day. Even then, the discussion on social media and the political arena continues.
