Dhaka Central University students present 7-point demand to VC

First-year students of the 2024-25 academic session at Dhaka Central University (DCU) have presented a seven-point demand to the Vice-Chancellor. They raised these demands at a discussion meeting held at Dhaka College in the capital on Sunday (July 26).

The students' demands include: distribution of identity cards within 48 hours, organising final examinations of the first year under the name of Dhaka Central University at their respective college campuses, formation of a central academic council or examination controller committee comprising teachers from the seven affiliated colleges, ensuring confidentiality through the preparation of multiple question papers, publishing results within the stipulated time, maintaining transparency in examination conduct and evaluation, and introducing residential facilities from the first year onwards.

At the discussion meeting, the students said all ongoing academic years of the seven colleges under Dhaka Central University must be included. Additionally, a clear roadmap for the transition process to the university must be published and formally communicated to the students.

They further stated that there is no need to change the examination schedule. Only the identity of the university should be changed, and examinations should be held on the previously announced schedule at their respective college campuses under the name of Dhaka Central University.

Meanwhile, the university administration has started holding discussion meetings at various campuses from Sunday to hear students' problems and demands directly. As part of this, a meeting was held with students and university administration officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, at Dhaka College Auditorium in the morning.

It may be noted that Dhaka Central University was established as the country's 57th public university in 2026, integrating seven government colleges in the capital. After a long student movement, the university's act was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad on April 10.
