Dhaka, Ctg city polls first as terms end earlier: Mirza Fakhrul

All local government institutions will be made functional through elections as soon as possible, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.

"Where the term ends, elections will be held there first," he said.

He made these remarks in an interview with a media outlet on Tuesday, February 24.

Regarding local elections with party symbols, Mirza Fakhrul said whether local government elections including city corporations will be held with party symbols will be decided in the first parliament session on March 12.

He further said political administrators will work better than bureaucrats.

Mirza Fakhrul said elections will be held first in city corporations where terms end earlier. In that case, elections for Dhaka's two city corporations and Chattogram City Corporation will be held first. Subsequently, elections for other city corporations will be held in phases.
