Dhaka, Ideal College students sign ‘peace agreement’ to end clashes
After repeated clashes, students of Dhaka College and Dhanmondi Ideal College have signed a ‘peace agreement’ to restore harmony.
The New Market Police led the initiative concerning the future of both the institutions and their students.
The signing ceremony was held at Dhaka College auditorium on Sunday noon (November 9), where representatives from both institutions pledged to avoid future violence.
Before the event, students exchanged flowers and sweets, marking a symbolic gesture of reconciliation.
New Market Police Officer-in-Charge Mahfuzul Haque said the initiative aims to end long-standing hostility between the colleges. Teachers and officials present praised the move, calling it a step toward lasting peace.
Although City College was invited, its representatives did not attend. Police said their absence would not affect the success of the peace accord.
Over the past year, Dhaka, City, and Ideal College students have clashed at least 15 times over trivial disputes, but authorities hope this agreement will finally end the cycle of violence.
