Dhaka Metro Rail passengers can recharge their permanent cards—Rapid Pass and MRT Pass—online, eliminating the need to stand in long queues at stations from today.

The new service was officially inaugurated at Agargaon Metro Station on Tuesday (November 25).

Sheikh Moinuddin, special assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, as the chief guest.

The event was presided over by Neelima Akhter, executive director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), with Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division, and Faruque Ahmed, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, attending as special guests.

Passengers can log in to the DTCA website [www.rapidpass.com.bd](http://www.rapidpass.com.bd) or the mobile app, select the “Recharge” option, and choose whether to recharge a Rapid Pass or MRT Pass. Payments can be made via bank cards, bKash, Nagad, Rocket, or other online banking methods. After payment, the card must be tapped once at an Add Value Machine (AVM) at any metro station to activate the recharge.

DTCA notes that a small service fee may apply for online payments. Recharged amounts will remain valid for three months. If the card is not tapped on an AVM, the money will be refunded to the customer’s account, but a 10% service charge will be deducted. Refunds can also be requested within seven days, subject to the same 10% fee.

Two AVMs will be installed at each metro station. Preparations are underway to deploy 32 AVMs across 16 stations from Uttara to Motijheel.

Passengers using permanent cards receive a 10% discount on fares. Currently, 55% of passengers use Rapid or MRT Passes. Officials expect the new service to save time and reduce inconvenience for commuters.

Dhaka Metro Rail operates from 6:30am to 9:30pm. The first train from Motijheel departs at 7:15am, and the last at 10:10pm. From next month, intervals between trains will be reduced by two minutes, increasing daily passenger capacity to over 500,000.
