Dhaka has been ranked among the least liveable cities in the world for the second consecutive year, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2026. The survey of 173 cities placed Bangladesh's capital at 171st position, the same as last year, with a score of 42 out of 100.

Only Tripoli (172nd) and Damascus (173rd) ranked below Dhaka. The index evaluates cities based on five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Copenhagen retained the top spot with a score of 98, followed by Vienna and Melbourne.

The report noted that while Asian cities, particularly in China and Japan, have shown improvement, Dhaka's consistently low score has pulled down the regional average. The index is published to assist multinational corporations in determining expatriate benefits.
