Dhaka temperature drops to 12°C, fog may persist until midday
Cold conditions have intensified in the capital, with Dhaka’s temperature dropping to around 12 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said light to moderate fog may linger over Dhaka and nearby areas until midday.
In a six-hour forecast issued from 7 am on Sunday, January 4, the department said the sky may remain temporarily partly cloudy during the first half of the day, while weather conditions will be mainly dry. Light to moderate fog is likely, with winds blowing from the north or north-west at speeds of 5 to 12 kilometres per hour. Daytime temperatures may rise slightly as the day progresses.
According to official data, Dhaka’s temperature was recorded at 12.5 degrees Celsius at 6 am, with humidity at 97 percent. The day’s lowest temperature was 12.3 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, the maximum temperature in the capital was 21.0 degrees Celsius. No rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours.
Sunset in Dhaka will be at 5:25 pm today, while sunrise tomorrow will be at 6:42 am.
In an earlier outlook, the meteorological department said weather across the country may remain mainly dry with temporarily partly cloudy skies until 6 pm today. From midnight to morning, moderate to dense fog is expected in different parts of the country, which in some areas may continue until midday.
The department also warned that dense fog could temporarily disrupt air traffic, inland water transport and road communication.
