Dhaka-bound Jamuna Express derails near airport station
A coach of the intercity Jamuna Express (746), which left Tarakandi, has derailed, blocking one railway line and delaying trains bound for Dhaka. Trains departing from Dhaka, however, are running on schedule.
The incident took place around 8:10am on Saturday (August 23) near the outer signal of Airport Station. According to a railway source, the third coach (7063) at the front of the train had derailed.
The front part of the derailed coach has been sent to Cantonment Station and the rear part to Tongi Railway Station, clearing the section.
A relief train has been sent from Dhaka and will recover the derailed coach after a brief shunting operation at Cantonment Station. Once all the coaches are brought to Dhaka and properly arranged, the Jamuna Express will continue its journey.
However, no one was injured in the derailment. While trains are departing from Dhaka on schedule, incoming services are experiencing delays.
