Dhaka–Chattogram highway lane to close for four days
The Chattogram-bound lane of the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway will remain closed for four days in Feni district to allow bridge repair work, the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) said.
According to a notice issued by the Roads and Highways Department, repairs on the Rampur Bridge in Feni will be carried out from March 22 to March 30.
The Chattogram-bound lane will be fully closed from March 22 to March 25. From March 26 to March 30, vehicles will be allowed to move through a single lane.
Officials said the timing was chosen as traffic volume typically declines after Eid, although some disruption to returning holiday travelers is expected.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes, including temporary one-way diversions and several connecting roads in the area.
However, local residents warned that many of these alternative routes pass through narrow urban roads that are not suitable for heavy vehicles, raising concerns about potential congestion.
Transport operators noted that the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway is one of the country’s busiest corridors, particularly during the Eid period, and lane restrictions could cause delays.
Executive Engineer Suniti Chakma said the bridge was damaged during floods in 2024 and requires urgent repairs.
He added that while some pressure on traffic is expected, major disruption is unlikely due to reduced post-Eid traffic, especially among heavy vehicles.
