Diamond World MD Dilip Agarwala arrested
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala, managing director of Diamond World, at the request of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with a case filed with the agency.
He was arrested in the capital’s Banani area at around 6pm on Monday (19 October). Shafiqul Islam, chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch, confirmed the arrest to the media.
“There is a case against him with the CID. At the agency’s request, he was arrested in Banani at 6pm in connection with that case,” he said.
The DB chief, however, did not disclose details of the case filed with the CID.
Agarwala was previously arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on 3 September 2024 over allegations of gold and diamond smuggling, fraud, forgery and money laundering. He was detained following a raid on Diamond World’s office in Gulshan, shortly after the fall of the Awami League government.
He was later shown arrested in a separate case involving the murder of a teenager named Hridoy Ahmed in Dhaka’s Badda area. Police questioned him in custody in connection with that case. He was subsequently released on bail.
