Tarique Choyon, the First Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, has said that newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Dinesh Trivedi, recalled a song by legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika while speaking about Bangladesh.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has announced the appointment of former Union Minister Dinesh Trivedi as the new High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He is expected to assume his duties shortly .

In a Facebook post on Saturday, May 2, Choyon highlighted Trivedi's political and cultural background, noting that he is a culturally inclined person who can play the sitar and is well-acquainted with the Bengali language and culture.

According to Choyon, in a recent interview while discussing his new responsibilities and Bangladesh, Trivedi spontaneously recalled a song by Bhupen Hazarika while talking about the democratic process and elections. Quoting Trivedi, Choyon wrote: "Ganga is my mother, Padma is my mother, the flow of two waters in my two eyes — Meghna and Jamuna. The same sky, the same air… the same pain."

Choyon commented that this reflects the geographical and cultural connection between India and Bangladesh and that Hazarika's song has long been considered a bridge between the emotions and cultures of the people of the two countries.
