Diploma engineers planning violence after failing in talks: BUET students
Students of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have accused diploma engineers of planning to resort to violence after failing to reach a resolution through dialogue.
At a press conference held Tuesday afternoon at the BUET cafeteria, the students expressed strong opposition to what they described as a “violent movement” by diploma holders. They firmly stated that they do not support holding the public hostage through road blockades or other disruptive actions to press demands.
During the briefing, BUET students reiterated their three-point set of demands, the foremost being that a minimum qualification of a BSc in Engineering should be required for recruitment to grade 9 government positions.
They also demanded the abolition of the 100% quota for diploma holders in grade 10 posts and called for strict legal action against individuals using the title "Engineer" without holding a recognized BSc in Engineering degree.
The students alleged that, after walking away from the negotiation table, some groups of diploma engineers are now attempting to provoke unrest, including plans to block roads and create public disruption.
"Achieving demands by putting public life at risk is not something we support," one BUET student stated, emphasizing that their movement is peaceful and responsible.
