Road Transport, Bridges and Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has said diplomatic communication is ongoing regarding the Bangladeshi ship 'Banglar Joyjatra', which has been unable to transit the Strait of Hormuz. He made the remarks after attending the passing-out parade of the 28th batch of trainee ratings at the National Maritime Institute in Chattogram on Saturday morning, April 18.

The minister said efforts are being made to create an artificial fuel crisis in the country, evidenced by the seizure of large quantities of hoarded diesel. However, there is no real fuel shortage, and the government is working to keep supplies normal.

Regarding the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram port, the minister said that before any decision is made about handing it over to a foreign operator, all aspects, including national interest, port profitability and technological development, will be considered.

Highlighting the potential of the maritime sector, the minister said trained youth will demonstrate Bangladesh's capabilities on the international stage in the future. With nearly 70 per cent of the world covered by water, expertise in the shipping sector is highly important for the country's progress.

Addressing the cadets, he said they must build themselves up with professionalism and determination, as the modern world is using sea routes as the main medium for development.
