Dipu Moni denied bail in 2 murder cases
The court has denied bail to former minister Dipu Moni in the murder case of jute trader Md. Monir and Riazul Talukder in Dhaka's Shahbagh during the July movement.
Dipu Moni's lawyer Rashida Akhter Junthi held a hearing in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque in Dhaka seeking bail on Tuesday (June 16). After the hearing, the court ordered the denial of bail. SI Shah Alam of the prosecution department confirmed the matter.
According to the allegations in the Monir murder case, jute trader Md. Monir participated in the movement with students and the public in the Chankharpul area of Shahbagh police station on August 5, 2024, the day the Awami government fell. He died on the spot after being shot by the accused in the afternoon. The deceased's wife, Rozina Akhter, filed a case in this incident on March 14. 351 people were named as accused and 500 were named as unknown accused in the case.
According to the allegations in another case, Riazul was shot dead in the Topkhana area of Paltan on August 4. In this incident, his colleague Billal Hossain filed a case against 63 people, including Sheikh Hasina, on September 12, 2024.
