Discussion meeting cultural programme at DU on 50th death anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong

A discussion meeting, red flag procession and cultural programme were held at the Payera Chattar of TSC of Dhaka University on the occasion of the 50th death anniversary of China’s revolutionary leader Mao Zedong.

These programmes were organized throughout the day on Wednesday (September 9). At the beginning of the programme a red flag procession was brought out. Later a discussion meeting was held on Mao Zedong’s political struggle, his role against imperialism and exploitation and his contribution to the liberation movement of the oppressed people. Afterwards revolutionary mass songs, songs and poems were presented in a cultural programme organized by ‘Gonoshilpir Ganer Dal’.

Speakers at the discussion meeting said Mao Zedong’s political thoughts and teachings are still important in the struggles of people in different regions of the world against imperialism, exploitation, discrimination and oppression. They also emphasized unified movement for establishing the rights of exploited people including workers and peasants and building a discrimination-free society.

The programme was presided over by President of Shaheed Biplobi o Deshpremik Smriti Sangsad and Convenor of Comrade Mao Zedong’s 50th Death Anniversary Observance Committee Maoist poet Hasan Fokri. The programme was conducted by Joint President of Biplobi Chhatra-Jubo Andolon, Dhaka Metropolitan Comrade Arunav Ashraf.

Speakers at the discussion meeting were Member of Shaheed Biplobi o Deshpremik Smriti Sangsad Syed Abul Kalam, Joint Convenor of Chhatra Gonomancha Ferdous Rahman Rod, Editor of Khanan Patrika Badal Shah Alam, President of Biplobi Chhatra-Jubo Andolon Taufika Priya, writer and journalist Anis Rayhan, President of Naya Ganotantrik Gonomorcha Jafar Hosen and President of Jatiya Ganotantrik Gonomancha Masud Khan.

The speakers highlighted various aspects of the long political struggle of the Chinese people under the leadership of Mao Zedong. According to them, the Chinese revolution took place through a long movement against imperialism, bureaucratic-comprador capitalism and feudalism. They mentioned that the struggle under the leadership of Mao Zedong also influenced the liberation movements of oppressed people in different countries of the world.

A call was made from the programme to further strengthen the people’s movement against imperialism, expansionism, bureaucratic-comprador capitalism, feudalism and religious fascism.
