Divorce can happen between spouses, but not with India: BNP MP tells Parliament
Divorce can happen between husband and wife, but divorce cannot happen with the neighboring country India, said BNP MP Golam Mohammad (GM) Siraj.
He made this comment while participating in the budget discussion for the fiscal year 2026-2027 on the 12th day of the second and first budget sessions of the 13th National Parliament on Monday (June 22).
Highlighting the relationship with India, GM Siraj said, the relationship between husband and wife can be temporary, divorce can also happen between them. But the neighboring relationship between India and Bangladesh cannot be divorced. It is never possible to deny the neighbor - neither India can, nor Bangladesh can.
He said, 'I will take a moment to talk about the India-Bangladesh relationship. That is that we all want India and Bangladesh to maintain our friendship in a friendly and respectful manner. Because I believe that India is our neighbor. We also want our friendly relations between the two friends not to be temporary.
Regarding India's new High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi, the BNP MP said, 'We saw the country where India's new High Commissioner came. When he came, he spoke poetically about the friendship between Bangladesh and India. Trivedi said, we are under the same sky, the same wind. We need friendship. What else did we see? We saw the storm of controversy on Bangladesh's social media. We saw anti-India in various ways on social media or electronic media. But why? This is the question of why.'
Regarding India's push-in, GM Siraj said, we want to know that today, 'push-in' - in Indian language, 'push-back' is happening. It has to stop. We want to say - come, win the hearts of the people. Let's establish a heart-to-heart relationship with the hearts of the people of India, the people of India and the people of Bangladesh. We don't want it to be anti-India or anti-Bangladesh. What do we want? We want to stand peacefully. In that case, my humble request to the current government of India is that you please stop 'push-in'. Stop push-in. At the same time, another disease that is even more serious than push-in has overwhelmed us - drugs. This all-consuming drug is destroying our youth community, student community, all classes.
