DMP commissioner’s convoy uses restricted crossing after ‘law is equal for all’ remarks
A convoy of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed reportedly used an unauthorised crossing shortly after he stated that traffic laws apply equally to everyone, regardless of status.
Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road on Thursday (June 4), the commissioner said, “Traffic laws are the same for all—whether government or private individuals. Even police personnel will face action if they violate the law.”
However, shortly after the briefing, while heading towards DMP Headquarters, his convoy was seen crossing through a restricted junction on Minto Road, which is typically closed to general traffic and operates as a one-way route.
Eyewitnesses said police personnel removed barricades at the intersection and halted traffic temporarily to facilitate the convoy’s movement. The barricades were later restored once the vehicles passed.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions among road users, with some questioning whether such use of restricted routes by official convoys aligns with the principle of equal enforcement of traffic laws.
A motorcyclist at the scene said police protocol may be necessary, but concerns remain over the use of routes closed to the public.
No immediate response was available from the DMP commissioner regarding the incident.
