DMP holds emergency meeting over attack on Nur in Bijoynagar
Senior officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held an emergency meeting on Saturday (August 30) following the brutal attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur in Bijoynagar.
According to eyewitnesses, a man in a red shirt, claiming to be a policeman, was seen striking Nur with a stick in the presence of law enforcement personnel. However, the DMP has yet to confirm his name or identity.
Speaking to the media, DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Nazrul Islam said, “Considering the gravity of the incident, senior officials are holding a meeting on the matter. Work is underway to verify the identity of the individual involved, but I cannot comment further at this moment.”
Following the attack, Nur was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. A six-member medical board has been formed for his treatment.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has come under sharp criticism after the incident.
