The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a 25-hour ban on flying sky lanterns across the capital, effective from 11:00 PM on August 14 to 12:00 AM on August 15.

The restriction was announced in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali, citing safety and security concerns. The directive has been issued under the authority of Section 28 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76).

According to the notice, all forms of sky lantern activity will be strictly prohibited within the Dhaka Metropolitan area during the specified timeframe. The public has been urged to adhere to the instructions to avoid any legal consequences.

The DMP has also warned that any incidents resulting from the violation of this ban — including accidents or fires caused by lanterns — will lead to legal action against those responsible.

City residents are requested to cooperate and ensure compliance with the temporary ban for the sake of public safety.
