DMP launches e-traffic system: Automatic notices for violations, warrants for ignoring
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has introduced a new digital system to enforce traffic laws in the capital, implementing strict measures. CCTV cameras and AI technology will now automatically identify traffic violations on the roads and send notices to offenders.
An official notice signed by DMP Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar was issued on Sunday, May 3, detailing the process.
The notification said various traffic violations, including operating unregistered and unfit vehicles, illegal parking, disobeying traffic signals, and driving the wrong way on city roads, are being captured by CCTV cameras. Automatic notices are then being sent to the addresses of the vehicle owners or drivers via the e-traffic prosecution software.
After receiving a notice, offenders will have the opportunity to settle the case by paying the prescribed fine. However, if an individual fails to appear at the designated traffic division after receiving a notice, further legal action will be taken, including the issuance of summons or arrest warrants. The process will be implemented through Special Metropolitan Magistrates.
The DMP warned the public to avoid any financial transactions or sharing personal information regarding e-traffic cases or fines. Anyone attempting fraud should be reported to the nearest police station or traffic division.
The authorities said offences such as running red lights at important intersections across the capital, crossing stop lines, driving the wrong way, and illegal parking are now being identified and acted upon digitally.
