BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has claimed that domestic and foreign conspiracies are underway to topple the current government. He said attempts are being made to blow minor incidents out of proportion and urged everyone to remain vigilant while calling on party activists to exercise patience.

He made the remarks at a prayer gathering organised at the National Press Club on Sunday, July 5, to pray for the recovery of three ailing BNP leaders — Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia.

"A particular quarter wants to destabilise the country. Everyone must remain vigilant to ensure no chaos is created. At the same time, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman must be given maximum support for the country's development," Dudu said.

He further said Tarique Rahman carries the legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia. "There is no politics of revenge in him. Rather, this family has been the biggest victim of revenge politics. For the last 18 years, BNP leaders and activists and their families have faced various forms of oppression."

He said those who were supposed to get jobs did not get opportunities under the previous government, leading to some restlessness among party activists. However, he urged everyone to remain patient and handle the situation.

The BNP leader also claimed that the people have accepted the BNP as the main political force of the mass uprising, and the public gave their verdict in favour of BNP when they had the opportunity to vote.

The prayer gathering was presided over by Jatiyatabadi Karmajibi Dal President Salahuddin Khan and conducted by its General Secretary Altaf Hossain Sardar.
