Double crime if people from martyrs' families join Jamaat: Fazlur Rahman
Kishoreganj-4 constituency MP Fazlur Rahman has commented that it is a double crime if people from martyrs' families join Jamaat.
He made this comment while addressing the National Parliament session on Tuesday afternoon (April 28).
Fazlur Rahman said, you know what happened after August 5. There was Yunus' government. I live in front of the arts. There could not be a song, a play, a lullaby. Everything was destroyed by black power. They said there was no liberation war. It was 1947, and there was a war in 1924. And there was chaos. That day, as a freedom fighter, I said that freedom fighters like Fazlur Rahman are still alive. The liberation war was fought in this country. The liberation war is true, 3 million people gave their lives, this is also true.
He also said, a mob was formed in front of my house to kill me. I will thank the police for that day, I will thank the military. They came to my house in 10 minutes to save me.
Commenting on 'The election was held through many conspiracies', the BNP leader said, what did they do in the election, what did those sitting on my right today do? We were brothers. What they did is unimaginable. When they started spreading propaganda through all the conspiracies that they would pass by getting a two-thirds majority.
He also said, I, the unfortunate Fazlur Rahman, said that if the Jamaat alliance gets a majority, then I will eat poison. I said this. The truth is, they could never win the war because their ancestors did not want Bangladesh.
He said, didn't we fight the liberation war? As the leader of the opposition party says, I do not disrespect him, I always call him 'honorable'. But the people of his party are sitting here, they call me 'Faza Pagla'. Are they civilized? Are they Islam- and what he is saying, that day he said that my beard is ripe, my eyes are ripe. He is 10 years younger than me. I am 78 years old. I was born in 48, he was born in 58.
On the issue of condolence motion and indemnity for war criminals, Fazlur Rahman said, December 14, 1971 is observed as Martyred Intellectuals Day. Those who killed hundreds of intellectuals, starting from Munir Chowdhury, Abdul Alim Chowdhury, Shahidullah Kaiser, are called Al-Badr. I am very unfortunate, a proposal has been made in this house—a condolence motion has been made for them too. Even if I were alone, I would have protested it. History will send the wrong message if we do not pass a condolence motion for war criminals. Another thing is the indemnity given to the police. The police stations that were looted and the police killed after August 5 were not fighting at that time, they were innocent. Where did all these weapons go? The incidents that happened after August 5 are not supposed to get indemnity under any law. An investigation should be conducted for that.
Expressing his loyalty to the Prime Minister, he said, "The last thing I said is, my honorable Prime Minister, whom I respect a lot." No matter how much intrigue there is within the country, my leader, the leader of the parliament, has done many great things. He has formed committees with equal shares. I will tell my leader that his mother drank milk together. But Sirajuddaula and Mohammadi Beg are not the same. Mohammadi Beg killed Sirajuddaula. Having said this, I end my speech by thanking you.
