Dr. ABM Abdullah's appointment as Emeritus Professor cancelled

The appointment of Dr. ABM Abdullah as Emeritus Professor of Bangladesh Medical University has been cancelled. At the same time, the university authorities have ordered the refund of all salaries and allowances drawn against that position.

The decision was announced in an office order signed by the university's Registrar, Professor Dr. Md. Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday.

According to the order, the 'Emeritus Professor Appointment Ordinance' was amended in the 92nd budget session of the Syndicate on June 20, 2024, in the wake of a proposal by a member outside the agenda.

In the same meeting, Professor Dr. ABM Abdullah was again appointed as Emeritus Professor for a lifetime term, which was illegal. Therefore, the appointment cannot be approved.

In this context, as per the decision of the 92nd Syndicate meeting, Professor Dr. The lifetime appointment of ABM Abdullah as Emeritus Professor has been cancelled. At the same time, the salary and allowances withdrawn against the Professor Emeritus post from the date of that meeting have also been ordered to be returned, the office order added.

When asked about this, Professor ABM Abdullah told the media, "Yes, I have received a letter. This is an honorable post, it was approved after going through five stages. Today I received a letter, my post has been cancelled, they are doing this out of stubbornness. There is no other reason."

He further said, "What the university administration has done to me is completely wrong. I have been wronged. I am not involved in any political matter, did treating Sheikh Hasina make me bad? I have treated many people for 50 years. This is my job. There is no precedent in the history of the world for snatching a respectable post like this. This is extremely wrong."
