Dr. Fazlul Bari elected president of Bangladesh Thyroid Society
Professor Dr. AKM Fazlul Bari, director of the National Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (NINMAS), has been elected President of the Bangladesh Thyroid Society (BTS) for the term 2025–27, while Professor Dr. Nasrin Sultana was elected General Secretary.
This has been confirmed through an announcement at the 7th National Conference and Annual General Meeting held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka on Friday (October 10).
Other key office bearers of the newly elected committee include Vice Presidents Dr. Zeenat Zabin, Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar, Dr. Shahjada Selim, and Lt. Col. Dr. Muhammad Ali Azad. Dr. M. Saifuddin and Dr. Jesmin Ferdous have been appointed as Joint Secretaries, while Dr. Rahima Parveen will serve as Treasurer. The position of Organizing Secretary has been taken by Dr. Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, with Dr. Tapati Mondol as Scientific Secretary and Dr. Papri Mutsuddy as Publication Secretary.
Themed “Approach to Thyroiditis,” the scientific event was attended by experts including Dr. M.A. Karim (former BAEC chairman), and Dr. Faruque Pathan (Director, BIRDEM Academy).
In his welcome speech, Prof. Bari highlighted that 20% of Bangladeshis suffer from thyroid disorders, 60% of whom remain untreated. Most cases involve thyroiditis.
Six researchers were recognised for their outstanding presentations at the conference. In the oral presentation category, awards went to Dr. Jesmin Ferdous, Dr. Papia Akter, and Dr. Afroza Naznin. In the poster presentation category, the recipients were Dr. Tapati Mandal, Dr. Tania Sultana, and Dr. Nabil Fahmi Ali.
