The government has reduced the tenure of VVIP status for Nobel laureate economist and former chief adviser of the interim government, Dr Muhammad Yunus, by six months, setting its expiry date for August 10, according to multiple high-level sources.

Under the revised decision, Yunus will no longer be entitled to VVIP privileges or special security arrangements after that date and will be treated as a regular citizen.

Official documents show that he was earlier granted VVIP status for one year following the handover of responsibilities, in line with provisions under the Special Security Force (SSF) Act.

During this period, the SSF has been providing security at his residence and workplace, along with personal protection during movement and coordinated security coverage during foreign travel.
