DU Chhatra Dal leader shares Jamaat rally video

A video from a Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami rally in Jashore was shared on Facebook by a Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader to project public support for the BNP, before being corrected later, triggering widespread discussion and satire on social media.

On Tuesday night around 8:00pm, Abidul Islam Khan, a leader of DU Chhatra Dal, posted the video from his verified Facebook account with the caption “Tarique Boshonto.”

However, screenshots from the video showed multiple scenes from a rally addressed by the Jamaat ameer in Jashore.

About an hour later, at around 9:15pm, Abidul Islam edited the post. In a subsequent comment, he sought to clarify the issue, saying the earlier video had been sourced from a broadcast by 71 TV and was later corrected.

“Such dissemination is regrettable for a responsible media outlet,” he wrote in the comment.

The incident has since sparked widespread debate and humour across social media platforms.
